About

„It is not the size of the table that matters, but the size of the heart.“

Old Bulgarian proverb

A distinctive trait of Bulgarians is our traditional hospitality — the kind that makes any visitor want to return. At Vodenitzata we are devoted to showing it in its purest form.

Whether you are local or a guest from abroad, alone or in good company, we welcome you with warm appetisers and a smile, treat you as a dear guest, feed you, lift your spirits with music, dances and rituals, and send you off with honours — keeping the door always open.

Nestinarstvo · the fire-dance

Embers glowing in the dark, bare feet, the rhythm of the drum…

Nestinarstvo is not merely a dance — it is a mystery no one has yet solved. For anyone caught once by this ancient rite, rooted in the cult of Dionysus, the memory is unforgettable.

From spring to winter, Vodenitzata hosts authentic nestinari performances, where dancers walk barefoot on burning coals. The programme also includes Bulgarian folk songs, choreography, traditional costumes and rituals — interactive, so every guest may take part.

A singular sound

Bulgaria's 7/8 rhythm — from Sting to Beyoncé.

Bulgarian folk music has been sampled by the greatest names in contemporary music. „The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices“ has been nominated for the Grammy three times, and Valya Balkanska's „Izlel e Delyo Haydutin“ was chosen to be played in outer space.
